Epic Quests

Filed under: Uncategorized @ 6:14 pm

Wow how time flies (again)…we’re already half way through the block. There are lots of important things going on!

Most important: AIMS testing in writing and reading is coming up the end of February! Students who are invited to workshops must attend in order to get AIMS augmentation. If you get a phone call or an in-class invite, make sure you attend. This will help you pass!

This block, I’m teaching a class I’ve never taught before: mythology. It’s going very well! Students are actually into the material. Right now, we’re sailing through the Odyssey. Next up, minotaurs, golden fleeces, and maybe a hobbit or two! Also, several students are taking the class for English 10b credit. Get those research papers in!

Speaking of research papers, everyone in 11b must be working on their papers as well. Get to the library, please! Don’t put this off!

Career Fair!

Filed under: Uncategorized @ 3:45 pm

Skyview High continued it’s annual tradition of holding a career fair on Thursday, November 5th. In spite of some hiccups — such as several presenters cancelling at the last minute — I’d say it was a success! Students had the opportunity to view presentations about six different career fields (of their choice), and to ask the presenters questions. Representatives from Pima Medical Institute, Pima Community College, the Art Institute, Tucson Fire Department, Bring’s Funeral Home, and several other businesses/schools talked to our students about the opportunities that are out there. My sincere thanks to the faculty and staff of Skyview High for all their help!

Remember, if you’re in one of the English B classes, you should be working on your research papers! Not completing the research paper will result in an F for the block.

Block 2 is here!

Filed under: Uncategorized @ 5:42 pm

Well, it’s been an exciting beginning to block 2, lots of changes happening around here!

Next week, the B lit. classes will start talking about the research paper project. This is the biggest assignment of the block; not doing it will result in failing of the class. This is NOT the assignment to put off until the last minute!

AIMS testing coming up next week. All juniors and seniors who haven’t passed the AIMS test must take it. Rest up and take it seriously!

Career Fair coming up November 5th. This is a great opportunity for students to see what kinds of job and school opportunities are out there. Last year’s was a huge success, I’m hoping the same iwll be true this time around.

Block 1 draws to a close!

Filed under: Uncategorized @ 5:04 pm

Great job to the students for getting through block 1! Everyone did a fantastic job and I am very impressed with the number of high grades students earned this block. I hope everyone rests up over the weekend and comes back refreshed and ready for Block 2!

The block is winding down!

Filed under: Uncategorized @ 2:51 pm

How did block 1 go by so fast? Seems like we only started looking at the plot curve yesterday, and now, it’s almost over!

Remember: I will accept any and all make-up work through Tuesday, Oct. 13th, so get those assignments in!

Junior English: we’re finishing up the Crucible right now; this class went through everything so fast, I’m going to have to come up with a whole new unit. Good job, class!  The class did a really great job with the Crucible poster assignment; we’ve got some awesome artists here at Skyview!

Sophomore English: trekking through the jungle that is Lord of the Flies…we can do it! We’re up through chapter 4 as of today.

Parents: Please be checking the PASS system for an up-to-date record of how your student is doing.  Help us keep them on track!
